Unstable particles decay sooner or later, so they do not form asymptotic one-particle states and need not be included as independent states in unitarity relations. The same applies to countable collections of unstable particles. I will explain how this situation changes in models with continuous spectrum. I will also discuss compressed spectra and the discrete-to-continuum transition.
